Attorney Jeff Tomczak
Jeff Tomczak began his legal career as an Assistant State's Attorney for Will County (Illinois) in 1986, and became the Chief of the Narcotics Prosecution Unit three years later. Jeff entered private practice in 1993 where he handled high-profile cases that included fighting the recall of 600,000 defective Cosco baby cribs.
In December 2000, Jeff became the 27th prosecutor to serve as the State's Attorney of Will County. Today, he is the managing partner of suburban Chicago's top defense firm.
An Innovative Prosecutor
Upon entering office, State's Attorney Jeff Tomczak concentrated his efforts on improving prosecutions for driving under the influence of alcohol. He developed a program for mandatory blood testing of suspended DUI drivers. This method, which included draft policies for hospitals and law enforcement, is used throughout Illinois, and is supported by Mothers Against Drunk Driving and the Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists.
Illinois' Top Prosecutor
The Illinois State Crime Commission cited Tomczak's work on DUI prosecution, which included a 187% increase in DUI convictions during the first year of Tomczak's administration, as the reason he was chosen as the Illinois State's Attorney of the Year in 2003.
Jeff Tomczak is the only State's Attorney to be given this honor twice. In March 2004, the Illinois State Crime Commission again cited Tomczak's innovative approach to law enforcement as the reason for this unprecedented honor.
As the State's Attorney, Tomczak served on the Illinois Supreme County's Capital Litigation Committee, Legislative Committee of the Illinois State's Attorney's Association, and the Illinois State Crime Commission board. In 2004, Tomczak was appointed to the Governor's Capital Punishment Reform Study Commission and the Criminal Law Edit Alignment and Reform Initiative (CLEAR).
